Provo Farmer's Market- this Saturday!

Well, it's that time of year again! Starting this Saturday (eek!) I will be selling more great things at the Provo Farmer's Market. So far the plan is to sell Sammy Jaybird products (I really need to get working on that) and more Great Granola! (hopefully). Also, my sister Kendra is going to be selling some awesome handmade books (very high quality and always original) and a couple of other girls in my ward are going to be selling some baby/ kid stuff too. If any of you would like to stop by and enjoy this lovely experience, here's the info:

Provo Farmer's Market

Where: 500 West 100 South Provo UT 84601 (That's Pioneer Park, for those of you who know where that is)

When: Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (May only)

9:00am-2:00pm (June-October)

What: Produce, arts & crafts, live music, food and special events.

And now a few tips from someone (me) who has a bit of experience with Provo Farmer's Market:

1. Bring more cash. And while we're on the subject, carry smaller bills with you. Vendors run out of change faster than you think and you're likely to get much faster service if you carry around a big stack of $1.00 bills (or at least $5.00 bills) instead of a $20.00.

2. If you want to actually buy fresh produce, arrive at or before starting time. Actually, you can get quite a bit of stuff by showing up before it starts since vendors are there early to set up and are just as happy to start making money sooner. I say show up early or on time if you actually want to buy fresh produce because most of the actual farmers sell out of their produce really fast. One time last summer we were stationed across from a nice couple who were selling fresh peaches. They sold out by about 10:00am and then just packed up and left. This is totally typical of produce sellers. Lucky them.

3. Eat lunch there. The vendors who sell food there (as in food that they make, not just fresh produce) make such yummy, yummy things. My mouth is already watering for more jalapeno bread and that amazing stir fry. Mmm...

4. (Not meant to be a contradiction to #2) Show up toward the end. Often times you can get some great deals by showing up at the end of the day when vendors are just trying to get rid of things. Let's face it- we vendors get hot and sticky and worn out sitting out there all day and sometimes it's worth it to sell something for a little less just to be done and go inside where it's nice and cool. Lucky you... if you're lucky.

5. Bring your swimsuit/ clothes you can get wet in. Starting in June (I think) Pioneer Park will have a new water feature like the one at Gateway Mall. (I'm pretty sure it'll be a big fountain on ground level that you can walk through and play in. Super cool.)

Okay, well, that's pretty much all I have to say about Farmer's Market for now. I'm super excited for another great season of selling! Provo Farmer's Market is always so much fun for everybody- sellers and buyers included.

A boy named Moon

Facebook is a funny place. When it started during my freshman year of college you had to have a college e-mail address to set up an account. That made me feel safe. It made me feel like maybe there wouldn't be so many creeps and fake people on there. Then they started letting anybody in. But over the years I haven't run across too many people trying to be my "friend" that seem weird to me. In fact, most of the people I've come across I actually know (or at least their name seems super familiar). So, the point is, facebook hasn't become full of weirdos since they started letting non-college e-mail address people in on the party. But here's the thing that gets me every time I get on facebook. There's this boy who was in my freshman ward who's name is Nate. We all called him Nate freshman year. I went to a party at Nate's house. But ever since he came back from his mission his name on facebook has been Moon. Weird. And I ran into him at the mall once and all throughout the 2.3 minutes of small chat all I could think of was "why Moon?"

Snow Snow Go Away

...and please do not return until your own appointed season at the very soonest. Here we are in the middle of April and it has been snowing almost all day! Yuck! Talk about lame spring break weather today. Hopefully it all melts in the morning and is beautiful by tomorrow afternoon. We'll see.

The Best Dentist Appointment Ever

It's always the same. I go to the dentist for my routine check-up.

Dentist: You haven't been flossing, have you?
Me: Nope.
Dentist: You have about twelve cavities.
Me: I figured.

But today the dentist was my hero! Apparently my gums are receeding in a few places (I'll just need to brush a little softer), but I have no cavities and no other major problems! Hooray hooray hooray!

Spring Break!

Even though Cameo would rightly argue that Spring Break started Friday after school got out, I feel okay saying it starts today when I would usually have to be in at work teaching little ones. Hooray hooray hooray for an entire week to play! The only downside is that this week Bryan has his last day of class (today) and then reading days and then finals at the end of the week, so I might have to do most of this playing either by myself or with my other cool friends who are teachers. Oh well. It's a week off. I'll take it whenever I can get it. Yay!

Sammy Jaybird is now on Etsy!

Click here to see the new site. And a big thanks again to Nancy Jones for all of her hard work and beautiful graphic design on the new Etsy site, blog, and everything else I've asked for her help with.

Also, I don't think I wrote about it on here, but Kid-to-Kid in Lindon, Utah recently (just this week) bought a very large order of Sammy Jaybird onesies and hair clips. It is so exciting to feel the joy of success! This order also requires special thanks to my wonderful husband Bryan and sister-in-law Lisa for spending hours helping me cut out tons of little felt pieces and, in turn, helping me remain sane.

Thank you everyone for your support and enthusiasm! I am having so much fun with Sammy Jaybird!

Big News!

It's a Girl!

Sorry for the long delay. On Thursday evening after we found out we tried to download the video of our ultrasound, but it didn't work. After that attempt we were both tired and just gave up and went to bed. Anyway, despite the long delay in telling all of you, we are very excited for our little girl to come in August! And now I can finally get started on a quilt for baby!
