Look at this shirt I made:

Isn't it adorable?  And perfect for fall?  And just the right amount of cute and girly?

Even the back is cute.

Doesn't the big red button just make you happy?

I even saved the world an eensy weensy bit and used an old broken hair tie for the elastic that goes around the button.  And it matches the shirt perfectly.

So what could possibly be the downside to this sweet little shirt?

I made it too small.

I am confident that it had nothing to do with Jess' amazing sew-along tutorial and everything to do with my terrible pattern drafting skills.  (Especially since at least a handful of other people had very successful and cute results.)  Here's further proof of my inability to draft patterns in case you don't believe me.

I mean, really, Olivia is so small.  She's almost 14 months old and she still fits quite comfortably in 6-9 month clothing.  And I *thought* I made this shirt a size 12 month.  So how is the bottom of the shirt won't even fit over her massive head?

I am so sad.  I am so in love with this little shirt.

I still can't decide whether to save it for a potential sister she may have someday or to give it to somebody I really like.  I guess I'll think about it for a while.

It's been a goal of mine for a while now to make more of Olivia's clothes.  I guess we'll see.

Oh bummer!!! It is so cute though! I'm so impressed! You have mad sewing skills! I can't believe you made that! :)

Also, I'm sorry I haven't called you back yet! I got your message and really want to chat but I have to wait until evenings after 9 or weekends because it's free then but around 9 every night I'm either finally hanging out with Richard or I'm starting to get ready for bed! But I'll call soon! Also, THANK YOU for being one of our references for adoption!

AND I'll SEE you in not so many more weeks! :)

Love you!

Aw, man! Don't let this stop you from making clothes for Olivia can do it. Start with some 25-Minute Leggings/Pants/Capris/Shorts from you favorite blog ever. They're the easiest.

I think it's adorable! And I love that little tag. Definitely save it... if not for another baby than for a teddy bear or doll.

ver ver cute! perhaps you could make it an open back that just buttons on top? nora has one of those, but it does cross over and overlap a bit.

Oh my goodness, I had the same experience this weekend! I was making a fleece shirt for my little guy as part of his Halloween costume. I forgot to add seam allowances, but thought maybe I could still get it to fit... so I squished him kicking and screaming into the shirt... and then had to surgically extract him from it because I couldn't get it back off (which required me pinning my 13-month-old to the floor while I cut the seam from waist to armpit to wrist... really up for the mom of the year award here...)

I was able to salvage it by adding a 3 or so inch strip to each of the side seams (where I cut the seam, from hip to armpit to wrist). My fleece had some stretch to it and it was still on the small side but maybe you could try the same thing, depending on how the shirt is constructed. It's super cute even if she can't wear it!
