Okay, so you want to hear something crazy?

I ran out of storage space.  Not storage space in my tiny apartment.  Storage space in Blogger.  Well, technically it's storage space in Picasa, but not having storage space in Picasa means not being able to upload pictures into Blogger.  I didn't even know that was possible, but I found out it was today, right when I was in the middle of uploading pictures for a long-long-long-overdue Parade of Homes post for you all to enjoy.  I had uploaded about 77 of the 118 pictures (don't judge) when the photo uploading box transformed into a mean grouchy "you used up all your picture storage space in Picasa and now your life is terrible and your blog will be terrible and turn to mush so you can kiss all those dreams of being cool goodbye" box.  It was a sad moment.  And it was a sad moment every time I tried again, thinking maybe it would forget that I had used up an entire gigabyte of storage on just pictures for my blog.

Sigh.

The alternative is to pay $5 a year for an extra 20 GB of storage in Picasa.  $5?  Five dollars?  FIVE DOLLARS?  ...EVERY YEAR?  It seems totally out of the question for something that had previously been free of charge.  But when Bryan came home and I told him the sad news he said, "Five dollars a year isn't bad, Katie."  So I splurged and bought the extra plot of land in cyber space.  Sadly, the whole thing could take up to 24 hours to process, so this may be a sad and lonely spot of pictureless darkness for a couple of days.  I hope you'll stick with me through this unexciting and text-dominant time.  It should all be over soon.  I hope.

But I'm curious... has anyone else run into this problem?

UPDATE:  Yay yay yay!  It works again!  Celebration giveaway tomorrow.  Don't be late.  You won't want to miss this.

So far, no I haven't. But I also haven't ever used Picasa, or posted over 30 pictures on my whole blog.... what am I missing out on?

Actually, I've never actually been to the Picasa site and looked at my pictures in the albums there. Every time you upload a picture onto your blog (in Blogger at least) it automatically uploads the picture into Picasa and archives it there. That's how I got into this whole mess. :)

Interesting. I went to the Picasa site out of curiosity and discovered that I'm up to 47%. I had no idea that's where the pictures went, or that there is limited storage. Learned something new today. Thanks, Katie! :)

As you know, this happened to me. I did the $5 splurge, too. It's probably the best deal ever when you think about it.

I never realized this either. Thanks for the heads up for us slightly-clueless bloggers.

That is so weird! I have been bloggin on my blog for 5 years, I upload TONS of pictures and I have never had that problem! Some of my blog's albums on Picasa have as many as 900 pictures in them. I bet if you save your pictures for web specifically it will use less space for you in the future. I haven't had to do this yet, but that's probably what I will start doing.

I'm glad it worked for you! I am almost out of space (I'm at 90% capacity) but I'm already planning on paying the $5 once I'm out. That $5 buys you 20 GB and the free space was only 1 GB -- so, yeah, it's $5 but you'll probably never need more than that! You can also conserve your space by downsizing your images before you upload them, if you're worried. :)
