KCWC: Day 1 (PJ Pants and Panties)

Are you participating in the Kids Clothes Week Challenge going on over at Elsie Marley?

If you haven't heard of it, it's a week-long sew along where you commit to spending one hour each day (during this week) to work on sewing clothing for kids.  It can be for your own kid(s) or maybe to give to some kids you know who might like some cool new digs.  Or it could even be for kids you don't know who are in need!

After hearing about it for the past year or so, I've finally buckled down and committed myself to participate!

And I'm honored to be a Sponsor of Elsie Marley this month during the KCWC!  So if you're in need of some handmade buttons or vintage zippers for the clothes you're working on, stop by THE SHOP!

Anyway, yesterday was the first day.  I started off slow and easy with a couple new things for Olivia's bottom half.

First up, these sweet, easy PJ pants made from an old sheet and the (free) Newborn Baby Pants Pattern from Made By Rae

You can learn how to lengthen the pants to fit older/taller kids HERE.

(I made the shirt a while ago using Dana's wonderful 90 Min Shirt tutorial.)

Item number two?

Some fun purple panties!

I had forgotten until I wrote "purple panties" just now, but we actually used to joke about purple panties a lot in my house growing up.  (Don't ask why.)  Hopefully Olivia won't get too embarrassed about wearing these.

There's just something really funny and precious about seeing tiny bums in teeny little panties instead of a big poofy diaper.  Not that Olivia's potty trained yet or anything.  Let's just say that making these is a mark of great hope and faith.  :)

They're made entirely from soft old t-shirts (including that little tag in the back) and from a little pattern I made myself.  Oh, and some store-bought elastic.  But who's counting?

Well, there's what I made yesterday for Day 1!  Anyone else out there participating?

I am definitely out of the loop because I didn't even know about the Kids Clothes Week Challenge until today, but I think I'm going to join up...because I happen to have already spent way more time sewing yesterday and today than I should have on stuff for the kids. Does a giant bean bag chair out of jeans count as kids clothes? I'm going to...that was yesterday. It's still not done, but I'm about 5 minutes away from finishing s skirt for my Katie.

Anyway, the pj's are cute. The undies are adorable. And as the owner of those awful purple panties that were the family joke...which I would not wear...I totally would have worn purple panties if they'd looked anything like yours...rather than what they looked like.

cute! I made something today that I'm hoping to photograph tomorrow and post! I didn't even unpack everything-headed straight to my sewing machine! lol.

I love the little panties! I should really figure out how to make these. I will soon be needing a few pairs when my smallest potty trains. Well maybe more than a few.....maybe about 47 or so.

I'm excited to see what you sew this week. And since you're finished with yard sale prep, you should be able to complete the challenge!
