Cozy Flannel PJ Pants
Last night Olivia wore pj shorts and a t-shirt to bed. This morning we woke up to snow. Today's Kids Clothes Week project: these cozy flannel pj pants.
I found this soft, comfy flannel in the remnant bin at Jo-Ann's today and it was the perfect amount for a pair of pj pants. I used the simple Kid Pants pattern from MADE. I've used this free pattern several times in the past (mostly for lots of other pj's) and it's really fast and easy. ...
I cut these pants straight from the free pattern which is 2T-3T size, but they still fit Olivia (who is now size 4T-5T) great anyway. I'm hoping to make another pair this week and, if I do, I'll add a little length next time, but I'm happy with the way this pair turned out.
So is Olivia.
I just did a simple casing + elastic around the waist. I considered getting more fancy by adding a drawstring or faux drawstring or something, but then I was like, "Hey self, all she's gonna do is sleep in them and you have a bajillion other things you should be working on." So I kept it simple.
And guess what? Olivia even helped make these! At the ripe old age of 4 she's getting quite good at handing me pins, pulling the pins out at the appropriate times as I sew, holding down the backstitch button, and today I even let her help me iron the fabric. As much as I sometimes get impatient having extra "help," I love that she loves sewing with me. Just thinking about it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Kind of like her cozy flannel pants. :)
