Come join me for 2 free classes! Projects from my new book!

First off, before I forget, thanks to all of you who entered the giveaway for the Olivia Top & Dress Pattern! The winner is Stacia, The Homey Owl who said, "The bias tape is SO adorable! I wouldn't have been able to resist it, either!" Congrats Stacia! Look for an email from me so you can claim your sweet prize!

Next up, a quick word about my new book! Simple Sewing: 30 Fast & Easy Projects for Beginners by Katie Lewis has already started to ship from Amazon! The official release date for the book isn't until Nov. 12, but I've heard from a few family members and friends that they've already started to receive the copies they pre-ordered. Yay!

If you're one of those lucky ducks, I'd love you forever if you'd take a few minutes to leave a review on the Amazon website. Not only will I love you forever (like, we're talking about a lot of love here, friends), but it'll also help other readers know what to expect when they're looking to buying the book. And who among us hasn't benefited from a helpful Amazon review? :)

And, finally, I'd like to invite you all to attend a couple of free sewing classes I'm teaching this month! The awesome ladies at my church are organizing a Super Saturday of craft, sewing, and other great classes for women in the Columbus, Ohio area to attend. I've been asked to teach how to make a couple of projects from my new book and I couldn't be more excited!

See details about both classes below...

1. Stockings class taught by Katie Lewis
Author of Simple Sewing: 30 Fast & Easy Projects for Beginners

Date: Classes will be offered during the Super Saturday on Nov. 16, 2013 from 9 am-2 pm in Columbus, OH

Cost: 50 cents to cover the cost of twill tape used for hanging the stocking. Please pay ahead of time or at the class.

Skill Level: Beginner
Never touched a sewing machine before? Don't worry! You'll be in good hands. :)

Materials:
-1/3 yard quilting cotton for the outside of the stocking
-1/3 yard quilting cotton for the inside of the stocking (Note: This fabric will show as the cuff of the stocking.)
-coordinating thread

Note: Flannel will also work well for this project. A stocking with quilting cotton for the outside and flannel on the inside is especially cozy.

If you have them, please also bring the following:
-sewing machine
-fabric scissors
-straight pins
-seam ripper (just in case)

Irons and ironing board will be provided.

Yield: 1 Stocking

If you would like to sign up to make more than 1 stocking, you are more than welcome to. When you sign up, just say how many stockings you'll be making and plan to pay 50 cents per stocking for the twill tape. You may not have time to complete all of the stockings during the class, but you should have enough time to cut all of your pieces and finish at least 1 stocking. You will be able to take home the twill tape you need for each unfinished stocking. Please be aware, however, that the pattern pieces being used are under copyright and you will not be allowed to take pattern pieces home with you, so plan to do all cutting in class.

Questions? If you have questions about the class or need help knowing what kind of materials to buy, please feel free to contact Katie by email (katie@the-red-kitchen.com).

2. Basic Tote Bag class taught by Katie Lewis
Author of Simple Sewing: 30 Fast & Easy Projects for Beginners
Riverside Ward

Date: Classes will be offered during the Super Saturday on Nov. 16, 2013 from 9 am-2 pm in Columbus, OH

Cost: FREE! :)

Skill Level: Beginner
Never touched a sewing machine before? Don't worry! You'll be in good hands. :)

Materials:
-1/2 yard quilting cotton for the outside of the bag and the straps
-1/2 yard quilting cotton for the bag lining (inside of the bag)
-coordinating thread

Note: Home decor fabric will also work well for this project. Because home decor fabric is thicker/sturdier, it works especially well for the outside of the bag, but would also be appropriate for the lining.

If you have them, please also bring the following:
-sewing machine
-fabric scissors
-straight pins
-rotary cutter supplies (rotary cutter, rotary cutting mat, acrylic ruler)
-seam ripper (just in case)

Irons and ironing board will be provided.

Yield: 1 Tote Bag

Ah! The pattern is beautiful and I can't wait to sew one up! Thank you so much!

If I lived in the area I would be at those classes in a heartbeat. I hope they go really well!
